Curious about a musher's life? Book Villmarkssenter's 1-day husky adventure to spend time with Alaskan sled dogs and enjoy a thrilling husky ride!
One of the things you must do when you visit Tromsø is trying your hand at dog sledding. By booking the Husky adventure 1-day tour by Villmarkssenter, you get the opportunity to learn about mushing and spend time with a team of Alaskan sled dogs. What’s more? You can explore the snow-capped mountains whilst enjoying an exhilarating sled ride!
On the day of the tour, you need to wait for your ride in front of the Radisson Blu Hotel by 9:30 am. After all the participants have arrived at the meeting place, the group will be picked up by the team and leave for the location. When you arrive, you will be briefed about the tour and will be assigned your set of huskies. The guide will show you everything from preparing the sled to managing the huskies during the ride. The husky ride will be for about 5 to 6 hours. The route taken will be as per the weather conditions and your skills at sledding.
As you sled across the mountains and valleys of Kvaløya-Island, you will get to pause to enjoy the scenic locales, snap some pictures, and have some refreshments. After the sled ride, you’ll get to do other activities such as visiting puppies and dog yard guiding.
Later, you can sit around an open fire close to the tour organizer’s Gamme-hut. You will be served a sumptuous traditional meal of Bidos, which is a Sami reindeer stew. If you are vegetarian/vegan, make your preference while booking the tour. Once you finish your meal, you can say goodbyes to the Alaskan dogs and get ready for your transfer to Tromsø.
As this tour is conducted during cold weather, you must wear the following articles for a comfortable experience: Wool underwear (base layer) for upper and lower body, woollen socks, a pair of gloves, a beanie or a winter hat, and sunglasses.
As dog sledding requires a lot of physical effort, it is ideal for individuals above 16 years of age with good physical fitness. You must be able to jog up a hill through snow, have a tight grip, and maintain a good balance on one foot and both your feet.
