The alpine style of mountain climbing is a classic form of mountaineering in which the climber depends on techniques and skills similar to hiking on ice. Because alpine climbing is all about balance, strength, and snow skills, a climber must conquer the multiple disciplines involved. This is what you get to learn when you book this tour by Arctic Sea to Summits. The activity takes place in Harstad, the perfect spot for climbing, hiking, and skiing.
Once participants make their booking, they will be informed about the meeting place for this training session, which will depend on the snow conditions. After getting introduced to the guide, all participants will depart to the starting point of this trip. From here, you will embark on a unique alpine climbing journey to the summit through the ice-laden terrains. Once atop the peak, climbers will prepare for the next part of this alpine climbing introduction, the downhill skiing trip.
Some of the key takeaways of this session are training in how to attach skis and axe to the sack, use of mountain hiking tactics to reach the summit, adjusting crampons on the boots, how to go on and off with skis, catch straps, and crampons; walking techniques to use while crossing alpine terrains, practicing fall and slip techniques like sliding and breaking with an axe, how to use communications and avalanche equipment, reviewing and practising routines for steep terrain traffic, skills for first aid and using emergency equipment, routines to handle emergencies, accidental falls, and avalanches, and detailed explanation about the risks involved.
The minimum age required for this training is 16 years, and each batch will include 2 to 4 participants. It is scheduled from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on weekdays and from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on the weekends.
